Strategy before a single line of code

Execution is cheap and getting cheaper. Knowing what to execute is where the value moved.

Strategy before a single line of code

There has never been a better time to build software, and that's exactly the problem. When anyone can ship a prototype in a weekend, the bottleneck stops being how fast you can build and becomes whether you're building the right thing at all.

Direction compounds

A small error in direction, taken far enough, becomes an enormous error in outcome. That's why we treat strategy as the foundation of every engagement — market, users, positioning, and the sequence of bets — before design or engineering begins.

Strategy isn't a deck that gets filed away. It's a living set of decisions that make every later choice faster and clearer: what to build first, what to say no to, what 'good' means, and how you'll know it's working.

When the strategy is right, execution becomes almost boring — a matter of craft and discipline. When it's wrong, no amount of beautiful design or clean code will save you. We'd rather spend the first weeks making sure we're pointed at the right mountain.
